Caring for Your Modal Silk & Polyester Area Rug
Modal silk and polyester blends deliver an exceptionally soft, silk-like hand feel paired with the color retention and resilience of polyester. Modal—a second-generation cellulose fiber derived from beechwood—is smoother and more dimensionally stable than standard viscose, but still requires attentive care to preserve its signature drape and luster.

Delicate Vacuuming
Vacuum 1–2 times per week using a suction-only attachment or a handheld vacuum on low power. Crucial: Always disable the beater bar. Modal silk fibers have a fine denier and smooth surface that can be snagged or pilled by rotating brushes. Vacuum gently in one direction, following the natural lay of the pile.

Stain Management
Blot spills immediately with a clean, dry, white cloth. Modal is more resistant to water than viscose, but prolonged moisture exposure will still compromise the fiber structure. Never rub or scrub—this distorts the pile and creates visible marks. For persistent stains, consult a professional rug cleaner experienced with cellulose-blend fibers.

Color & Texture Preservation
Rotate your rug 180° every 6 months. Polyester holds dye exceptionally well, but modal fibers can exhibit subtle fading under prolonged UV exposure. A professional low-moisture cleaning every 12–18 months is recommended. Avoid saturating the rug with water; low-moisture extraction or encapsulation methods are ideal for this blend.
Special Note: Modal Silk Fiber Properties
Modal is classified as a high-wet-modulus (HWM) regenerated cellulose fiber. It is stronger than standard viscose when wet, but still significantly weaker than polyester. Do not machine wash, wring, or fold when damp. If the rug becomes wet, lay it completely flat on a clean surface and allow it to air dry away from direct heat or sunlight. Never use a hairdryer or heating element to accelerate drying.
