High-Pile Vacuuming
Vacuum your washable shaggy rug 1–2 times per week using suction only on the lowest power setting. Crucial: Never use a beater bar or rotating brush—the long shaggy pile will tangle around the brush, pulling fibers out of the backing and causing permanent bald patches. For deep-embedded debris, shake the rug outdoors vigorously or use a handheld vacuum to spot-clean between the long fibers.

Machine Washing Protocol
This shaggy rug is designed to be machine washable. Wash on a cold or gentle cycle (max 30°C / 86°F) using a mild, pH-neutral liquid detergent. Never use powder detergent or fabric softener—powder embeds in the dense pile and becomes impossible to rinse out, while softener coats the fibers and causes them to clump and mat. Wash the rug alone to prevent tangling with other items.

Drying & Pile Recovery
After washing, lay the rug completely flat on a clean, elevated surface (such as a drying rack or clean outdoor surface) to air dry. Never tumble dry—heat causes recycled cotton fibers to shrink and the polyester pile to mat permanently. Once fully dry, shake the rug vigorously or use your fingers to fluff the pile back to its original volume. Drying a shaggy rug takes longer than flatweaves—36–72 hours depending on pile density and humidity.
Special Note: Shedding & Pile Matting in Shaggy Rugs
Shaggy rugs with recycled cotton content will exhibit more initial shedding than short-pile rugs—this is amplified by the long pile length and the shorter recycled fiber structure. Shedding is heaviest in the first 4–8 weeks and will diminish significantly with regular gentle vacuuming. Do not over-vacuum to accelerate shedding removal—excessive suction on a shaggy pile causes more harm than good. Additionally, high-traffic areas may develop pile matting over time. To prevent this, rotate the rug 180° every 3–4 months and periodically rake the pile with your fingers or a wide-tooth comb to restore loft and separation between the fibers.
