Viscose & Polyester Blend Care

Caring for Your Viscose & Polyester Area Rug

The viscose and polyester blend combines the luminous, silk-like appearance of viscose with the durability and stain resistance of polyester. This creates a rug with exceptional visual appeal and improved resilience—but the viscose component still demands moisture-conscious care. Treat this rug with the respect its delicate fibers deserve to preserve its radiant sheen.

Careful Vacuuming

Vacuum 1–2 times per week using a suction-only attachment. Crucial: The beater bar must be disabled. Viscose fibers are soft and smooth—a rotating brush will catch, pull, and permanently fuzz the surface. Always vacuum in the direction of the pile to maintain the rug's natural light-reflecting quality.

Moisture Control

Viscose loses structural integrity when wet. If a spill occurs, blot immediately with a dry, white, lint-free cloth. Never rub or apply water directly to the stain. The polyester content helps prevent deep absorption, but any moisture that reaches the viscose fibers can cause watermarks, yellowing, or stiffening. For colored stains, use only a professional-grade dry spot cleaner.

Longevity Protocol

Rotate your rug 180° every 6 months to balance wear patterns. Viscose fibers are susceptible to UV degradation—position away from direct sunlight or use UV-filtering window treatments. Schedule professional dry cleaning every 12–18 months. Always specify that the rug contains viscose to ensure the cleaner uses appropriate low-moisture methods.

  • Blot spills instantly with a dry, white cloth. Speed is critical with viscose.
  • Vacuum suction-only, always following the direction of the pile.
  • Rotate every 6 months and shield from direct UV exposure.
  • Professional dry cleaning only every 12–18 months—always disclose viscose content.

Strict Prohibitions

  • Never wet clean or steam clean. Viscose fibers lose up to 50% of strength when saturated.
  • Never use a beater bar. Rotating brushes destroy the silk-like surface permanently.
  • Never apply bleach or ammonia. These cause irreversible yellowing and fiber breakdown.
  • Avoid high-humidity environments. Persistent moisture weakens cellulose-based viscose over time.
