Caring for Your Polyester & Acrylic Area Rug

Polyester and acrylic blends create a fully synthetic rug that combines polyester's excellent stain resistance and color vibrancy with acrylic's wool-like softness and UV resistance. This is a highly durable, low-maintenance combination ideal for busy households and light-filled rooms. Consistent care will prevent pile matting and keep your JUSTRUG looking plush and vibrant.

Effective Vacuuming

Vacuum 2–3 times per week. This all-synthetic blend can tolerate a beater bar on a high pile setting, though suction-only is gentler for long-term pile preservation. Both fibers are resilient, but repeated aggressive vacuuming can cause surface pilling on the acrylic component. Alternate between deep and light vacuuming sessions.

Stain Handling

Both polyester and acrylic are hydrophobic (water-resistant), giving you extra time to address spills. Blot immediately with a clean, dry cloth. For stubborn stains, a solution of mild dish soap and lukewarm water applied via cloth is safe. Never rub vigorously—while the fibers resist staining, rough scrubbing causes surface pilling on the acrylic fibers.

Pile Maintenance

Rotate your rug 180° every 6 months. Acrylic provides natural UV resistance, making this blend suitable for sunny rooms. However, polyester can crush under sustained pressure. Use furniture pads under heavy items and move furniture periodically. Professional cleaning every 18–24 months using hot water extraction or dry cleaning keeps both fibers in optimal condition.

  • Blot spills promptly—both fibers are hydrophobic, giving you time to act.
  • Vacuum 2–3 times weekly using suction or a gentle beater bar on high setting.
  • Rotate every 6 months and use furniture pads to prevent pile crushing.
  • Professional cleaning every 18–24 months—hot water extraction or dry cleaning.

Strict Prohibitions

  • Never use excessive heat. Polyester melts at high temperatures; acrylic can also deform.
  • Never use acetone or nail polish remover. Solvents dissolve both polyester and acrylic fibers.
  • Never pull pills by hand. Use a fabric shaver—hand-pulling extracts more fiber from the pile.
  • Avoid aggressive scrubbing. This causes accelerated pilling on the acrylic surface.
