Caring for Your Rayon & Viscose Area Rug
Rayon and viscose are closely related regenerated cellulose fibers—in fact, viscose is a specific type of rayon. When combined, they produce a rug of extraordinary silk-like beauty with a deep, luminous sheen. However, this is the most moisture-sensitive fiber combination in the JUSTRUG collection. These fibers require the strictest no-water protocol and the gentlest handling to preserve their radiant appearance.

Minimal-Contact Vacuuming
Vacuum once a week using the lowest suction setting and a suction-only attachment. Never use a beater bar, rotating brush, or stiff broom. Both rayon and viscose have smooth, fragile fiber surfaces that fuzz and break when subjected to mechanical agitation. Vacuum in a single direction, following the pile's natural lay, to preserve the rug's light-reflecting properties.

Absolute Moisture Avoidance
This rug must be treated as a zero-water textile. If a spill occurs, blot immediately with a clean, dry, white cloth using firm, steady pressure. Never add water, cleaning solution, or any liquid. Both rayon and viscose swell and weaken dramatically when wet—even small amounts of moisture can cause permanent watermarks, yellowing, and fiber stiffening. Environmental Protection
Rotate your rug 180° every 4–6 months. Both fibers are highly sensitive to UV radiation and will fade noticeably in direct sunlight. Both rayon and viscose are regenerated cellulose fibers produced from dissolved wood pulp. The terms are often used interchangeably, but 'viscose' specifically refers to the viscose process of regeneration. When combined in a single rug, the construction typically uses different weights or textures of the same fiber family to create visual depth. All care instructions for viscose apply identically to rayon. Treat the entire rug as the most moisture-sensitive textile in your home.
